Release 0.9.3

We are pleased to announce the release of the version 0.9.3 of the DGtal library and its DGtalTools (http://dgtal.org). This 0.9.3 release contains many improvements and  bugfixes, please have a  look to the complete changelog. We would like to focus on three new major features:
   – implementation of ParDirCollapse in cubical complexes ;
   – Volumetric analysis tools (VoronoiMap, PowerMap, —Reverse—DistanceTransformation and ReducedMedialAxis) now work on toroidal domains (with per-dimension periodicity specification) ;
   – a new version of the Vol format (Version 3) allowing compressed volumetric files (as efficient as PNG). You can convert your old Vol files to the new version using DGtalTools « convertVol » tool. Please note that older version are still supported in DGtal).
We would like to thank all contributors, issue reporters, documentation proof-readers and all the users for their feedback and help in this new release.

SGP Software award 2016

The DGtal project (http://dgtal.org) has received the software award at the Symposium on Geometry Processing 2016 (june 20th-24th, Berlin).

The price acknowledge a high quality open-source software dedicated to the geometry processing of shapes. The collaborative DGtal project has become crucial in the internaiton digital geometry community with many contributions from various teams in this topic.

Taking into account the elegantly structured code, the ease with which users can interface into the code-base, and the varied scope of applications, the SGP Software Award Committee have decided that this software package is the most deserving of the candidates considered.

We would like to thank the community and all developers that help us on this project.

Release 0.9.2

We are pleased to announce the release of the version 0.9.2 of the DGtal library and its DGtalTools (http://dgtal.org). Please have a look to the complete Changelog (see link below). This release contains some new features (periodic Khalimsky spaces, normal vector estimation via direction voting, pre-computed point simplicity tables…) but an special effort has been made on the documentation:

   – new documentation theme for DGtal library (http://dgtal.org/doc/stable)
   – new documentation for DGtalTools:  all tools are now documented and illustrated (http://dgtal.org/doc/tools/stable)

Furthermore, we are really proud to announce that DGtal project has received the Symposium on Geometry Processing Software Award (presented during SGP 2016 last week). The Committee has taken into account the elegantly structured code, the ease with which users can interface into the code-base, and the varied scope of applications. This award is a great opportunity for us to spread Digital Geometry activities and the DGtal project. Thanks a lot to all contributors for this award.

Release 0.9.1

We are pleased to announce the release of the version 0.9.1 of the DGtal library and its DGtalTools (http://dgtal.org).
Please have a look to the complete Changelog (see link below). We would like in this message to focus on three main new contributions:

  • Packaging and Build: DGtal now compiles on MS Windows (Visual Studio 14). Furthermore, several binary packages are now available on various linux distributions. DGtal requires now C++11 compilers.
  • New features: beside many bugfixes and changes, a new Cubical Complex class has been added.
  • New tools: many tools have been added to DGtaltools. We have also created a new DGtaltools-contrib repository to gather specific research tools or prototypes.

Release 0.9

Dear all,

We are pleased to announce the release of the version 0.9 of the DGtal library and its DGtalTools (http://dgtal.org). As usual, the Changelog is huge and we encourage you to have a look to it  (see link below), see « New features, critical changes » , «  Changes » and « Bug fixes » sections).

However, we would like to emphasize several things:

  • the DEC package that was introduced in 0.8 has been considerably optimized and enhanced. The API and operator names have slightly changed to improve consistency.
  • many new features in the geometry package: convex-hulls/alphashapes in 2D, DSS union in log-time, 3D-DSS recognition, lambda-MST in 2D and 3D,
  • as usual, new container for digital sets based on hashed containers (many DGtal tools get 20-50% speedup), new mathematical tools, better I/O, better visualization tools with possible interactions, less issues, better documentation …
  • plenty of new tools in the DGtalTools repository (http://dgtal.org/tools): sliceViewer, converter tools (itk, heightmap,…), bug fixes …

DGtal is a generic open source library for Digital Geometry programming for which the main objective is to structure different developments from the digital geometry and topology community.
